Buatsi wins WBA light-heavyweight eliminator
The No 1-ranked WBA light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi (18-0; 13) won on a unanimous 12-round points decision over the No 2-rated Dan Azeez (20-1; 13) on Saturday night at London’s OVO Arena.
Buatsi was in control from the opening round as he piled up the points in a slow-paced fight and scored two knockdowns in the 11th round.
The scores were 116-110, 117-109, and 117-109.
European junior welterweight champion Adam Azim (11-0; 8) won against Enock Poulsen (14-1; 5) when he retired after a shoulder injury in the fifth round. The time was 2:39.
Olympic light heavyweight Ben Whittaker (6-0, 5) stopped Khalid Graidia (10-14-5; 2) at 1:57 in the fifth round.
BOOKER WINS OVER 10 ROUNDS
WBO No 14 junior middleweight Chordale “The Gift” Booker (22-1, 10) outpointed Greg “The Villain” Vendetti (23-6-1; 12) over 10 rounds on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Using stick-and-move tactics, Booker won with scores of 98-92, 99-91, 99-91. Booker lost his WBC US junior middleweight title on the scale on Friday.
Featherweight Ricky de los Santos (12-1; 3) outpointed Nathan Martinez (8-3; 2) over eight rounds to win the vacant WBC USA Silver title. The scores were 79-73, 78-74, 78-74.
Middleweight Francis “Frank the Tank” Hogan (16-0; 14) won on an eight-round unanimous points decision over Dormedes Potes (14-5-1; 10) to win the vacant WBC USA Silver title. Hogan scored knockdowns in rounds three and seven.
BENN OUTPOINTS DOBSON
Welterweight Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (23-0; 14) won on a 12-round unanimous points decision over Peter Dobson (16-1; 9) on Saturday at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Benn dominated in the early rounds as Dobson came back later in the fight. However, this was not enough as Benn won with scores of 119-109, 118-110, and 118-110.
In a middleweight fight, Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (16-0; 11) stopped late substitute Armel Mbumba-Yassa (10-1; 7) in the seventh round of a bout for the WBA International title. The time was 2:52.
Heavyweight Johnny “The Romford Bull” Fisher (11-0; 10) stopped Dmytro Bezus (10-2; 5) in the first round after a barrage of punches, as the referee waived it off. The time was 2:51.
PANIN OUTWORKS TOLER
Welterweight “Super Bad” Vlad Panin (18-1; 10) outworked Quashawn Toler (17-2; 12) over 10 rounds on Friday night at the Red Owl Boxing Arena in Houston, Texas.
Panin was the busier fighter and won with scores of 97-93, 96-94, 98-92, to win the WBA Continental USA title.
ROMERO WINS IN ARGENTINA
Junior lightweight Neri Ariel Cruz Romero (17-0; 9) won on points over 10 rounds against Miguel Arevalo Mejia (21-4-1; 7) of Mexico on Friday night at the Club Unión Eléctrica, in Cordoba, Argentina.
Romero was in control throughout to win with scores of 100-89, 99-90, and 97-92. Romero won the vacant WBO Latino title.
