The highly anticipated restart to the IPL after a week’s suspension was a soggy anti-climax when the match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out without a ball bowled at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday night.

Persistent rain in the 24-hours leading up to the first match after military exchanges between India and Pakistan halted both the IPL and the Pakistan Super League caused lingering consternation but hopes that the weather would clear failed to materialise.

The ‘no-result’ was not a poor outcome for the home side, however, as the extra point moved them clear at the top of the log on 17 from 12 matches, one ahead of the Gujarat Titans who have 16 from 11 matches. Both teams are all-but guaranteed a place in the Play-Offs.

KKR however, became the fourth team to be officially eliminated.

Punjab Kings remain in third place with 15 points from 11 matches while Mumbai Indians occupy last Play-Off place with 14 points from 12 matches.

Punjab play the eliminated Rajasthan Royals on Sunday afternoon while Delhi host Gujarat in the evening.
