All eyes on Betway SA20 Season 4 Player auction live today

Global coverage to extend across Sub-Saharan Africa, India, the UK and North America
South African cricket will be the focus of attention around the world when the Betway SA20 Season 4 Player Auction takes place in Johannesburg on 9 September.
The six franchises will aim to spend a maximum of R131 million on 84 available slots from a list of over 500 registered local and international players.
The auction will be broadcast live on SuperSport in Sub-Saharan Africa, JioHotstar and Star Sports 1 in India, Sky Sports in the UK, Willow TV in North America and the Betway SA20 YouTube Channel. The all-access build-up will start at 13h30 SAST, with proceedings going live at 2pm SAST.
Internationally renowned broadcaster Kass Naidoo will be joined by Proteas legends Dale Steyn, Mark Boucher and Chris Morris to provide an unparalleled viewing experience, with their expertise bringing fans closer to the auction.
Fans will also receive rolling coverage on all Betway SA20 social and digital platforms, with well-known media personalities Anele Mdoda and Schalk Bezuidenhout set to feed the audience with all the behind-the-scenes and breaking news coverage on the ground.
AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Record-Breaking Potential: League Commissioner Graeme Smith predicts the R10 million glass ceiling could be shattered, with top local and international players like Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, James Anderson and Shakib-al-Hasan up for grabs.
- Strategic Buys: All franchises have submitted their pre-signed players along with their Wildcards already and will be looking to formulate the rest of their 19-player squads with calculated purchases.
- Spotlight on the Youth: Teams must select a minimum of two Under-23 players in their 19-player squads, replacing the previous Rookie Draft system.
FRANCHISE PURSES:
Pretoria Capitals: New coaching duo Sourav Ganguly and Shaun Pollock enjoy the largest purchase at the table of R32.5 million (US$1.86 million).
Durban's Super Giants: Lance Klusener and Co have R29.5 million (US$1.66 million) to spend.
Joburg Super Kings: The Wanderers-based franchise will have the prized sum of R21.5 million (US$1.2 million) million to invest in a bid to qualify for a maiden Betway SA20 final.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape: After a settled first three seasons, the two-time champions are now looking to rebuild their squad with R21.5 million (US$1.2 million).
Paarl Royals: The Royals have R14.5 million (US$0.819 million) to spend as they aim to improve on three consecutive playoff finishes.
MI Cape Town: The defending champions will be hoping to go back-to-back and have R11.5 million (US$0.65 million) to help them achieve their ambitions.
SEASON 4 SQUAD REQUIREMENTS
For Season 4 all teams must have 19 players in total in their registered squad.

x1 Wildcard (can be an overseas or SA player and does not count as part of salary cap)
x2 U23 players (Must be a South African player who is 23 years of age or younger at the date of the start of the competition on December 26, 2025)
The Betway SA20 Season 4 Player Auction marks the first major milestone ahead of the anticipated fourth season starting on 26 Dember 2025.
