Sekhukhune United climbed back to the Betway Premiership summit after they ran out 2-0 victors over Durban City at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, August 30.

Early goals from Bradley Grobler and Thabang Monare secured a fourth win in five matches for Eric Tinker's side, who went two points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns and remain ahead of Kaizer Chiefs on goal difference.

Babina Noko were aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, having dropped their first points with a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu most recently, while City hoped to keep the momentum going after picking up four points from their last two games.

The hosts made a bright start as Keletso Makgalwa forced Darren Keet to tip his curling shot behind for a corner in the eighth minute and then hit the front just two minutes later.

Grobler continued his impressive start to life in Limpopo when he capitalised on a mistake from Keet to lob the goalkeeper from 25 yards out and bring up a century of league goals.

The Citizens' afternoon got even worse as they conceded again on the quarter-hour mark, with fellow new signing Monare registering his first goal for Sekhukhune.

There were some promising signs for Gavin Hunt's side as the first half progressed, as Samkelo Maseko tested Manuel Sapunga from a tight angle on the right in the 22nd minute before he showed good strength to hold up the ball for Jean Lwamba, who failed to keep his shot on target 12 minutes later.

Hunt made three changes at the break, bringing on Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Joslin Kamatuka and Thabo Nodada in a bid to get back into the contest, while he had to go to his bench once more on 62 minutes after Bokang Mokwena was forced off through injury, and Saziso Magawana took the forward's place.

The visitors limited Babina Noko's chances in the second half, and they almost pulled one back on 77 minutes when Maseko lined up a shot that flew just wide of the right post.

However, Sekhukhune managed to keep their third clean sheet of the season as they reclaimed top spot from Sundowns.
