Kaizer Chiefs will hope to return to the winning column in the Betway Premiership this week as they host Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Kick-off is at 5:30pm (CAT, GMT+2).

CURRENT FORM

It can be said that Amakhosi have seen better days already this early during the 2025-26 campaign, after back-to-back defeats in all competitions.

While Chiefs recorded a 1-0 loss to Kabuscorp in a CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round tie this past Saturday, the Soweto giants also suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership last time out.

The last time Chiefs tasted victory was on 30 August, when they secured a 1-0 win against Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership.

With Chiefs occupying third on the log after six matches played, Gallants linger in ninth with nine points to their name after seven fixtures.

Gallants will head into their next game on the back of consecutive stalemates with Polokwane City, Mamelodi Sundowns and most recently, Orbit College.

WHAT WAS SAID

Following Chiefs’ commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup, the club confirmed that Glody Lilepo and Zitha Kwinika will undergo assessments ahead of the Gallants tie.

“The technical team will assess the squad following a physically demanding encounter in Luanda,” Chiefs mentioned on their official website.

“Glody Lilepo was stretchered off after a reckless tackle in the penalty area, while Zitha Kwinika required a head wrap due to excessive bleeding incurred from an elbow to the face by Jorge, which earned the Kubascorp player a red card.”

Then, reflecting on his side’s season, Gallants coach Alexandre Lafitte recently expressed that his side will have to improve in both areas of the pitch.

“The most important thing is the collective. When we have the ball and when we do not have the ball, we have different possibilities to defend and attack,” Lafitte said.

“We will improve in each game. The most important thing is that we should stop conceding goals and increase the goals we score.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kaizer Chiefs: Inácio Miguel – With Chiefs battling to yield positive results, defender and captain Inácio Miguel will be tasked to steady the ship from a leadership point of view. As Amakhosi strive to get back to winning ways, Miguel’s voice is needed sooner rather than later.

Marumo Gallants: Sekela Sithole – After scoring the equalising goal against Orbit College, Sithole definitely put his hand up for selection against Kaizer Chiefs. Sithole has been a bright spark for Gallants recently and will hope to continue his positive goal-scoring form this week.
