Gavin Hunt has urged Durban City to collect as many points as possible where they can ahead of a challenging trip to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 8pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM:

The Citizens have made an impressive start to the season following their promotion to the Betway Premiership as Motsepe Foundation Championship winners in 2024-25.

Hunt has guided his team to three wins in six games since replacing Simo Dladla at the helm in the off-season, picking up 11 points in the process.

City returned to winning ways on Tuesday when they beat Siwelele 2-0, having seen their unbeaten start to the campaign come to an end at the hands of league leaders Sekhukhune United prior to the international break.

The KZN outfit have already accrued four points on the road after a 2-0 win at TS Galaxy and a 1-1 draw with local rivals Golden Arrows, and Hunt has stressed the importance of getting early results.

Bafana ba Style are two places and four points better off than Hunt's side in second position after a 1-1 stalemate at Marumo Gallants on Wednesday maintained their unbeaten record this term.

The Brazilians went top of the table thanks to a 3-0 victory over Magesi on Sunday, but Babina Noko climbed back to the summit with a 3-1 success against Kaizer Chiefs in midweek.

Miguel Cardoso's side have played one game more than their title rivals and they've already dropped points on three occasions after also drawing with Chippa United and Chiefs.

WHAT WAS SAID:

Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt

"Every win in the PSL is important, especially where we are with our squad and financially. We've [got] to try and keep going, especially where we can.

"Obviously, now we have Sundowns and Stellenbosch away. Out of six games we played three tough ones away.

"The second round will be tough, we must try to get ourselves in a good position if we hit poor form because if we do that then we would have collected more points. We must try to get as many as we can as early as possible."

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Mamelodi Sundowns - Iqraam Rayners is the early frontrunner for the Golden Boot alongside Bradley Grobler after scoring four goals in six games. The 29-year-old striker bagged a brace against Dikwena tsa Meetse last weekend and followed it up with the opener at Gallants, having broken his duck in the 2-0 win over AmaZulu on August 12.

Durban City - Letsie Koapeng has hit the ground running in Durban after making the switch from fellow newcomers Orbit College earlier this week. The well-travelled striker made four appearances for Pogiso Makhoye's side and opened his account with the winner against Siwelele before going on to score on his City debut against the same team in midweek.
