The in-form Evidence Makgopa made it two goals in as many matches before Patrick Maswanganyi sealed Pirates' 2-0 victory over eighth-placed Durban City, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The influential Relebohile Mofokeng, who provided the assist for Makgopa's goal, was named Man of the Match after helping the Buccaneers open a three-point lead at the top of the standings.

The action started on Friday with AmaZulu FC succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Richards Bay in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex as coach Arthur Zwane's side were humbled.

Two matches failed to produce goals on Saturday, with Polokwane City being held to a 0-0 draw by TS Galaxy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, where goalkeeper Ira Eliezer Tapé was named Man of the Match.

At the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, Siwelele FC drew 0-0 with a rock-bottom Chippa United, whose defender Sirgio Kammies scooped the Man of the Match award after the game.
