Clinical Pyramids see off AS FAR
Pyramids proved to be too strong for AS FAR in their first leg CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash this week, as they ran out 4-1 winners at the 30 June Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Egyptian giants put AS FAR under pressure from the first whistle and managed to take the lead in the second minute of the match. A
fter probing on the edge of the AS FAR box, Mostafa Fathi latched onto a loose ball in the area before squaring the ball to Fiston Mayele, who scored with ease.
Pyramids doubled their advantage 10 minutes later, with Mayele getting on the scoresheet once more.
Ibrahim Adel did well to evade his opposite number on the left-hand flank before he picked out Mayele with a trivela pass, who guided the ball home with a deft touch.
The home team continued to put pressure on the opposition backline and scored their third goal in the 38th minute.
AS FAR then gave the ball away inside their own half, which prompted Ramadan Sobhi to play Adel through on goal, who subsequently placed the ball home with a classy chip.
The visitors pulled one back on the stroke of halftime following a well-worked move into the Pyramids area.
Abdelfattah Hadraf then beat two players en-route to the centre of the box before placing a calm finish into the keeper’s bottom right corner.
AS FAR started the second 45 as the better side and saw most of the ball leading up to the hour-mark.
However, Pyramids looked dangerous and created a couple of scoring opportunities of their own during this period.
Nevertheless, the Egyptian side restored their three-goal advantage in the 67th minute as Adel caused havoc in the AS FAR backline again.
After running at the opposition defence, Adel did well to score his second of the match with a toe-poke finish at the near post.
While AS FAR had chances of their own toward the end of the match, Pyramids saw out the game unscathed with a 4-1 win on home soil.
