Zamalek's North African rivals, Wydad of Morocco, are also the clear favourites as they prepare to welcome group stage debutants, Nairobi United of Kenya, at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca in a Group B clash.

South African giants Chiefs, on the other hand, will be on the road as they are scheduled to travel to the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, where they are expected to lock horns with Egyptian outfit Al Masry in a Group D encounter.

The first Confederation Cup match of the weekend will be played on Saturday, with Algerian side CR Belouizdad set to face Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars in a Group C match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.

Seven matches are scheduled to be played on Sunday with Singida's Tanzanian rivals, Azam, making a short trip to neighbouring DR Congo, where they are expected to battle it out with AS Maniema Union in a Group B encounter at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.

Group A will see Algerian Cup champions USM Alger take on Ivorian side San Pedro at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers, while Malian giants Djoliba AC are poised to welcome Morocco's Olympic Club Safi at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako.

Lastly, last season's semifinalists, Stellenbosch FC of South Africa, will play host to Congo-Brazzaville outfit AS Otoho at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, New Peter Mokaba Stadium, in a Group C encounter.
