Bafana target Uganda scalp in Chan qualification hopes

Bafana Bafana will be under the spotlight in their final Group C assignment at the African Nations Championship on Monday, as they prepare to face host nation Uganda at the Mandela National Stadium.

Kick-off is at 7pm (CAT, GMT+2)

As it stands, Uganda lead the way in Group C after an early slip in the tournament. The Cranes recorded a 3-0 loss to Algeria on matchday one, however, Uganda quietly went about their business with back-to-back victories against South Africa and Niger respectively.

Sitting in third position, South Africa are one point behind the log leaders and will need a victory to qualify for the next phase of the competition.

Following draws with Algeria and Niger, coupled with a 2-1 win against Guinea, Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki believes that the pressure is on Uganda to deliver.

WHAT WAS SAID

Speaking on the Uganda fixture, Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki expressed that their opponents will need to deliver.

“We are fully aware that this is a decisive game. For us, it is a final,” Ntseki said.

“The pressure is on Uganda, who are playing at home and are expected to win. We will focus on our strategy and take advantage of transition moments.”

Elsehwere, Uganda coach Morley Byekwaso believed that the Cranes are ready to make history on their own patch.

“We know it will be a very tough game, but we are ready. This is our moment to make history,” Byekwaso said, as per CAF.

South Africa: - Thabiso Kutumela – After blanking in the game against Niger, Kutumela will no doubt be ready to go again, especially after a promising display against Guinea. The experienced attacker is expected to lead the attacking line yet again on Monday, while Uganda will have to keep a keen eye on the elusive forward.

Uganda: Joel Sserunjogi – Sserunjogi was a star turner for Uganda in their 2-0 win against Niger, as the midfielder scored the all-important insurance goal in the 56th minute. South Africa will be well aware of his industry in the middle of the park.
