Tuskers and Storm triumph in CSA One-Day Cup
The Tuskers and Eastern Storm enjoyed exciting wins over Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers and the Northern Cape Heat respectively in their division two CSA One-Day Cup matches on Sunday.
Tuskers beat Badgers in low scoring scrap
The Tuskers clinched a nervous four wicket division two CSA One-Day Cup win over the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers in a low scoring encounter in the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Sunday afternoon.
It was a game dominated by the bowlers, with the Badgers being skittled all out for 129 batting first, before the Tuskers responded with 130/6 to edge the game.
In the Badgers innings only five batsmen reached double figures, with Johan Smal top scoring with 37, while Jhedli van Briesies (20), Onke Nyaku (19) and Pheko Moletsane (16) all got starts but couldn't kick on.
For the Tuskers it was an all-round bowling effort with Keith Dudgeon, 2/8, leading the way, with him backed up by Kyle Nipper. 2/25, and Stefan Tait, 2/32.
The Tuskers chase then got off to a poor start as they were reduced to 30/3 and 59/4.
Tiaan Koekemoer then played the winning knock with an unbeaten 52 (4x4; 1x6) and shared in a 47-run match defining fifth wicket stand with Michael Erlank (24) which took them to the brink, before Koekemoer took them home.
Storm edge thriller against Heat on DLS method
The Eastern Storm claimed a thrilling three run win over the Northern Cape Heat on the DLS method after their division two CSA One-Day Cup game was brought to a premature end by rain at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Sunday afternoon.
The Heat batted first and managed a competitive 252/9 in their 50 overs, before the Storm responded with 213/5 in 44.5 overs when rain chased the players from the field, which proved to be just enough to give the Storm a tight win on DLS.
In the Heat's innings a good start from the Storm bowlers had them in early trouble on 74/4.
Middle order resistance then saw Jason Oakes (31) and Kelly Smuts (36) get starts, only for them to slip to 136/6 after 35 overs.
This brought Hanu Viljoen, 54 off 52 balls (1x4; 3x6) and Romano Terblanche, 49 off 40 (5x4; 1x6) together and they shared in a 103-run seventh wicket stand which helped them get to their eventual target.
The Storm's chase then got off to a dreadful start as they were reduced to 19/3, which brought Divan Rossouw, 89no off 128 balls (5x4) in to join Kabelo Sekhukhune, 52 off 73 (4x4).
They then rescued the innings with a 103-run fourth wicket stand, before Rossouw was assisted by Mykyle Pillay (28) and Mangaliso Mosehle (14no) in getting them to their eventual score, which proved to be just enough as the rain came down ending the match.
