Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena believes he should be named the DStv Premiership’s Coach of the Season when the Premier Soccer League holds its end of season award ceremony next month.

“I think the coach of the season should be me. I think the coach of the season must be the coach that wins the league,” said Mokwena when asked about the destiny of this season’s award after Sundowns beat second placed Stellenbosch 1-0 away at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

The result saw Sundowns extend their lead to 22 points in the campaign and remain unbeaten for the season.

“But I must give lots of compliments to the work that Steve Barker has done. He deserves incredible, incredible plaudits for the work he's done at Stellenbosch,” added Mokwena.

“And many of my other colleagues have done some very good work like Jose Riviera at Pirates.

“But without sounding arrogant, the coach of the season in my opinion would be me, for sure. And I have no doubts about it.”

The 37-year-old Mokwena was named Cosafa Coach of the Year at the southern African regional governing body’s awards in Johannesburg last week.

The date for the annual PSL awards are expected to be announced this week.
