The Cape Milers Club ASA Grand Prix, a middle-distance track event, will take place at the Green Point Athletics stadium in Cape Town on Friday, 4 April, as part of the World Athletics Continental Challenger Tour series.

The programme includes a pre-meet for junior and club athletes to test their fitness and speed, starting at 4:30pm.

The World Athletics Continental Challenger Tour programme promises to be another incredible evening featuring the best South African middle-distance athletes competing for world-ranking points and R125 000 in prize money.

This year the event also includes the ASA National 10 000m Championships for men (7:45pm) and women (5pm), who will race for national honours over 25 laps.

This is a progressive move by the organisers and Athletics South Africa to ensure the best possible conditions at sea level for athletes to perform.

This is the fourth year that Cape Milers Club have hosted and organised the premier middle-distance event in the South African track and field calendar.

Over the years there have seen many athletes run their personal bests and the elite athletes have achieved some of the fastest times recorded on South Africa soil.

Olympians Ryan Mphahlele and Tshepho Tshite both dipped below the World Athletics qualifying time in the 1 500m in 2023, qualifying for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

There is once again generous prize money on offer for the top three athletes with highest score on the World Athletics points table, along with prize money for the top three places in each elite event (who achieve the 2025 Athletics South Africa SA Championships standard).

Additional cash incentives are in place for running a World Championship qualifying time and for breaking a South African record.

Athletes will also gain valuable World Athletics ranking points as the event is sanctioned by World Athletics.

Athletes who run world-class times will have the opportunity to be invited to international meetings and attract much needed sponsorship.

SuperSport will be screening the event live, while for those wanting to watch live tickets can be purchased via Quicket.co.za (Cape Milers Club ASA Grand Prix) or at the stadium.

Tickets are R50 and gates open at 3:45pm.
