Inclement weather saw the toss for the opening one-day international between the Proteas women and Pakistan women at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein delayed on Sunday morning.

It is the first game of the three-match series, which will move to SuperSport Park in Pretoria on Wednesday, and then onto Kingsmead in Durban on Sunday, where the tour will conclude.

The Proteas clinched a 2-1 win in the T20I series that ended earlier this week, but Pakistan built up some good momentum with a big win in the most recent match.

But with the rain pouring down in Bloem, both teams could be in for a frustrating day, as they wait to see if conditions will clear up enough for them to get some sort of game in.

They need at least 40 overs (20 each) to constitute a match, so if conditions aren’t terrible, a call on the game may only be made mid-afternoon.

If it is washed out, the points will be shared as it is the start of the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) cycle, which serves as the qualification pathway to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2029.

Both teams will thus hope that conditions will clear so that they can get in a game and go for the win, for IWC points, and to get the series off to a good start.
