World Cup Qualifiers: South Sudan caretaker coach to ring changes

South Sudan national football team’s caretaker coach Simon James Yor has outlined areas they need to work on heading into the final qualifying match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Africa. He has hinted on ringing the changes when facing Togo on Monday.
The Bright Stars face Togo in an academic match for Group B while smarting from a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Senegal’s Teranga Lions over the weekend.
Such a heavy loss led to the suspension of South Sudan’s substantive coach Nicolas Dupuis for 15 days. Consequently, the Frenchman will miss Monday’s encounter.
The coach’s suspension followed the remarks he made, suggesting that he was not being paid his dues.
Now, Yor has emphasized the need to correct the wrongs from the Senegal game to emerge victorious in the next assignment.
"We made mistakes that cost us dearly. However, we are focused on learning from those errors and adapting our approach," the caretaker coach told his association’s media.
He hinted on the possible changes to the starting line-up to maximise the team’s potential.
“This is a critical moment for us,” Yor added.
South Sudan are out of the race for the World Cup finals and anchor the group with four points from nine games. The Teranga Lions lead the table with 21 points, four ahead of second-place the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
