Rickelton century sets up big MICT SA20 win over JSK
A superb second century of the Betway SA20 from Proteas star Ryan Rickelton set MI Cape Town (MICT) on their way to a big 36-run win over the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) to keep themselves alive in the competition, at DP World Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
Rickelton continued to make a mockery of the Proteas selectors decision not to pick him for the T20 World Cup squad, as he backed up his century in the tournament opener, with an even better effort on his home ground on the Highveld.

After that first century wasn’t enough to sway the selectors, with him left out of the squad for the showpiece event after, he firmly shook off that disappointment as he clubbed nine sixes and eight fours on his way to an unbeaten 114 off 60-balls.
Fellow opener Rassie van der Dussen was also in top form, crashing six sixes and four fours in his 65 off 32 balls, while an unbeaten cameo from Karim Janat, 20no off 11 (1x4; 2x6) also helped them finish strong and get them to a massive 234/3 batting first.
JSK were dealt a huge blow before their chase even started, when it was confirmed that captain Faf du Plessis would not bat after being injured in the field in the first innings.
Thus despite impressive half centuries from Dian Forrester, 80no off 42 (4x4; 5x6), and James Vince, 77 off 43 (10x4; 3x6), they still finished well short in the end on 198/5 after their 20 overs.
Due to the Du Plessis injury, that put pressure on mid-tournament signing Michael Pepper (2) to step into the breach, but he couldn’t make an impact as he was first to fall at the start of the third over, edging Kagiso Rabada to keeper Rickelton.
Matthew de Villiers (4) was then out LBW to George Linde, and Wiaan Mulder chopped Rabada on for a second ball duck, which left JSK in big trouble on 47/3 by the end of the powerplay.

Vince was basically man alone in keeping JSK in the hunt by the halfway stage, as he reached a well-deserved half century with a boundary off Rashid Khan in the ninth over, while back-to-back sixes off Trent Boult in the 10th helped them move to 89/3.
However the run rate was constantly climbing, and the pressure finally told in the 12th over as a good spinning delivery from Linde caught the outside edge of Vince’s bat and ballooned to Rabada at short third-man, ending a positive 66-run partnership with Forrester.
Forrester and Donovan Ferreira, 22 off 15 (2x4; 1x6), combined for a 50-run stand off 27 balls, but that still wasn’t enough to keep up with the run rate, and once Ferreira edged Corbin Bosch to Rickelton in the 16th over, the game was essentially over at 151/5.
Forrester however continued on, bringing up his half century with a boundary off Boult in the 18th, and then hammered two sixes off Bosch’s last over that went for 18 as he became his team’s top scorer, but it still wasn’t nearly enough.

At the start of play MICT won the toss and chose to bat, with their innings getting off to a flying start thanks to Rickelton and Van Der Dussen as they set the platform with a brilliant 129-run opening stand off just 62 balls.
They dominated the powerplay, crashing 67 runs off of it, which included Dan Worrall’s first over going for 20 runs, while the third over from Prenelan Subrayen went for 13, and the fourth from Akeal Hosein went for 14.
The carnage continued after the powerplay, but Van Der Dussen did receive a lifeline on 43, in the eighth over, when Vince looked to have made a good relay catch off the bowling of Mulder, only for the third umpire to rule he had touched the boundary rope.
That allowed Van Der Dussen to go to a 26-ball half century with a boundary in the ninth over, bowled by Ferreira, which also brought up the teams 100, while 19 also came off the over.

In the 10th over Rickelton reached his half century with a six off Nandre Burger, and by the halfway stage MICT were sitting pretty on 128/0, but in the next over Worrall made the breakthrough, as Van Der Dussen pulled him straight to Mulder at deep square leg.
The second half of the innings was then largely about Rickelton making merry, as Nicholas Pooran (14) and Jason Smith (2) were unable to trouble the scorers.

Rickelton reached his century in some style, cracking back-to-back boundaries and a six over deep square leg off Burger in the 18th over, while his 66-run partnership off 28 balls with Janat helped them reach the end of their innings well over the 200-run mark.
