SuperSport United moved up to third place on the Absa Premiership standings following a 2-0 win over Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Sunday afternoon.

First-half goals from Aubrey Modiba and Bradley Grobler sealed all three points for Matsatsantsa as they keep their slim title hopes alive. Defeat leaves Highlands in eighth place on the standings.

SuperSport dominated the early exchanges and duly opened the scoring with 23 minutes on the clock. A neat ball from Grobler unleashed Guily Manziba down the right flank and the Democratic Republic of Congo winger picked out Modiba who volleyed home into an empty net with Marlon Heugh caught out of position.

Highlands improved following the setback with Ryan Rae testing Ronwen Williams' palms in the 41st minute.

But Grobler would double the visitors lead two minutes before the break. Poor marking left the forward unmarked at the back post from a Sipho Mbule corner-kick and he made no mistake, nodding home for his 12th league goal of the season.

The Lions of the North tried to find a way back into the game following the interval, but never really tested Williams in the second-half as SuperSport went on to claim all three points.
