The deadlock had been broken midway through the second half when Pascal Msindo conceded an own-goal attempting to clear a cross.

Maniema reached the quarterfinals for the first time after outplaying Nairobi United 3-0 in Lubumbashi to finish group B runners-up, three points behind Wydad.

All the Maniema goals came in the first half. Beni Namboka bagged a brace, then Jaency Mboma Kinda netted.

Nairobi midfielder Enock Machaga was shown a red card 12 minutes into the second half. It was another blow for the Kenyans, who lost all six matches and scored just once.

Chabab Belouizdad of Algeria edged AS Otoho of Congo Brazzaville 2-1 in a match to decide the winners of group C.

Abdennour Belhocini scored his fifth goal of the African campaign and Farid El Melali added a second before the break in Algiers. Malian Bandiougou Diallo halved the deficit.

Belouizdad finished six points above Otoho, who want to emulate compatriots AC Leopards, shock 2012 winners of the African equivalent of the Uefa Europa League.

Confederation Cup semifinalists last season, Stellenbosch of South Africa came third after a 0-0 draw with Singida Black Stars of Tanzania in Cape Town.

After scoring only once in five group A matches, Djoliba of Mali finally clicked to trounce San Pedro of the Ivory Coast 4-0 in Bamako, where Fode Toure bagged a brace.

USM Alger of Algeria and Olympique Safi of Morocco qualified from group A, and Egyptian contenders Zamalek and Al Masry from group D.
