11:15 - T20 International: Australia v South Africa

SA have to win this one to keep their hopes alive in the three-match T20 series after Australia won the opener on Saturday by 17 runs.

13:30 - Premier League: Aston Villa v Newcastle

Two clubs curtailed in their pre-season spending will be looking for the perfect start to the season as both ready themselves for long European seasons

15:00 - MTN8 semifinal, first leg: Orlando Pirates v Mamelodi Sundowns

The local football community is abuzz as we await this early-season clash of two mega-clubs. An indicator of the season ahead?

16:00 - Diamond League: Silesia (Poland)

There are 16 Diamond League events in this programme, not least of which is a world-class men's 100m featuring the likes of Akani Simbine, Kenneth Bednarek, Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson. Don't blink, seriously...

17:10 - Rugby Championship: SA v Australia

Opening match of the season for the Spanish champions - and all eyes will be on Marcus Rashford.

23:10 - Rugby Championship: Argentina v New Zealand

What a match this could turn out to be as both teams start their Rugby Championship campaigns desperate for a win.

SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST

04:00 - UFC 319: Dricus du Plessis v Khamzat Chimaev

The BIG one! Dricus defends his middleweight title belt against the UAE's Chimaev. A real tough one to call, so get the coffee and blankets ready!

14:00 - MotoGP: Austria - main race

The bikers return from their summer break. Will the Marquez brothers continue their domination in the last 10 races? Will Brad Binder turn around his disappointing season?

17:30 - Premier League: Manchester United v Arsenal

What an opening match for these two proud teams - a real early-season litmus test. Definitely the stand-out match of the opening PL weekend.

19:00 - PGA Tour: BMW Championship - final round

So much to play for, as after this 50 players becomes 30, and the FedEx Cup heads into the Tour Championship to decide who will be the crowned champion for 2025 - and $10 million richer from the purse of $100 million.
