Sprinter Sinesipho Dambile produced another solid performance on Wednesday night, spearheading the small South African contingent at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo, Norway.

Dambile took second place in the men's 200m sprint in 20.12 seconds, with Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana taking a comfortable victory in 19.84. It was Dambile's third podium finish on the Diamond League circuit this season, after he finished third in Rabat last month and second in Stockholm last week.

"It was a tough race and I know where I went wrong and what I need to work on," Dambile said after the race.

"I was very confident going into today as I have been running well and I need to watch it back, but I think I can improve despite beating some big names today."

Middle-distance runner Tshepo Tshite, the only other SA athlete competing in Oslo, ended 16th in the men's 5 000m race, which was won by Ethiopian athlete Addisu Yihune in 12:47.62. Tshite, the SA 1500m record holder, set a 5000m personal best of 13:20.92.

The seventh of 16 legs in the 2026 Diamond League series will be held in Doha, Qatar on Friday, 19 June.

"An incredible night for Dambile again, worth it's silver lining. His concentration is certainly at its highest at the moment and it must hold for the rest of the season. Congratulations once again to him, his coaches and support staff! So, it's on to the next challenge," said John Mathane, the Deputy President and Acting President of Athletics South Africa.
