The Varsity College Comets will be eager to finish their first Varsity Netball experience on a high when they play their final two matches of the competition this Sunday and next Monday in Johannesburg.

It's been a difficult competition for the newcomers who have learnt a great deal throughout their maiden appearance in the tournament. They have shown glimpses of what they can produce, however the competition has been highly competitive throughout.

Coach Janine du Toit and her chargers are still confident that they can finish well with two matches remaining in their campaign. They take on Maties in their penultimate game on Sunday at 7pm at Wits and then finish with a clash with the Madibaz on Monday afternoon at 13:00.

The last two matches of the tournament that the Comets played came with a number of challenges. Coach Du Toit feels that despite the results her team make her proud.

"Our last two matches where the toughest matches the team has faced," she said candidly. "We had a number of challenges but the ladies showed great character and stayed positive throughout the matches, and each player has improved tremendously at their own rate.

"The first years especially showed great progress and toughness, and they are surely players to look out for in the coming years."

Looking at what to expect from the Comets going forward, Du Toit feels that they are making good strides and will need to continue this improvement if they want to compete in this competition.

"We still have a lot of growing to do to participate at this level. Nurturing a student-athlete is not an easy task.

"We have taken a lot away from the experience we have gained at this competition, and we will certainly work towards improving on what we have."

Du Toit is hugely encouraged and proud of how her team has conducted itself throughout the competition.

"The girls have remained very positive and the team work that they have shown has been a real highlight for me.

"The way that the girls have carried each other both on and off the court has been fantastic to see and we are incredible proud of the girls," she added.
