Egypt claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in their final 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification match played at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday night.

Therefore, the Pharaohs ended their successful qualifying campaign with a victory, having collected 26 points from 10 matches. The group A winners will be in action in December's Arab Cup in Qatar and Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Djurtus (African Wild Dogs), on the other hand, wrapped up an unsuccessful qualifying campaign in fourth place in the group A standings. The West African side are expected to play international friendlies in the upcoming Fifa breaks, after failing to qualify for the 2025 Afcon.

Having booked their spot in the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA in their previous match, which was against Djibouti on 8 October, the Pharaohs' head coach, Hossam Hassan, rested his key players, including Mohamed Salah, Mohamed El Shenawy and Hamdi Fathy.

Hassan's second-string team were determined to impress and they broke the deadlock as early as the 10th minute. Mohamed Hamdi netted his first international goal after being set up by Ahmed Koka and Egypt were leading 1-0 during the interval.

The African Wild Dogs struggled to penetrate the Pharaohs' stubborn defence after the restart, and coach Emiliano Te decided to introduce Portugal-based attacker Tamble Ulisses Folgado Monteiro on the hour mark.

However, Egypt remained solid at the back with coach Hassan having refreshed his midfield by introducing Mahmoud Saber in the 68th minute. Ultimately, the match ended in a 1-0 victory in favour of Egypt, who recorded their eighth win in group A.
