Maduka begins Magesi tenure with a draw in Polokwane
Magesi made a better start to their second season in the Betway Premiership after holding Polokwane City to a 0-0 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Dikwena tsa Meetse, who kicked off their debut campaign in the top flight with a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United 11 months ago, lost their opening two matches last term and managed just one win before the turn of the year.
But new head coach John Maduka will be pleased to have picked up a point on the road in his first game at the helm after the 2024 Carling Knockout champions came under the cosh in the first half.
Mbali Tshabalala was called into action early on to keep out a snapshot from Levy Mashiane and he was tested from close range by Sibusiso Tshabalala as the half wore on.
Mashiane had another sniff at goal when he steered a header wide of the goal from a corner, although the visitors finally threatened just before halftime as Mcedi Vandala drew a save out of Brian Bwire following good work from Delano Abrahams.
Rise And Shine were inches away from breaking the deadlock in the opening stages of the second half when Bonginkosi Dlamini lined up a shot from the left that struck the frame of the goal.
Keagile Malepe then wasted a good opportunity for the hosts with a header that he sent over the crossbar from another corner, while at the other end, Abrahams could have pulled off a snatch-and-grab win for Maduka's side, but the right-back skewed his effort from a tight angle.
