GolfRSA salutes former SAGA President Naadir Agherdien

GolfRSA extends its heartfelt condolences to Yumna, children Reyhana and Dehraan, and the wider Agherdien family and friends on the untimely passing of Naadir Agherdien, former President of the South African Golf Association (SAGA).
“Naadir was a devoted servant of the game whose influence touched countless lives throughout his journey in golf,” said GolfRSA Chief Executive Officer Grant Hepburn.
“Whether chairing a SAGA meeting or cheering on his grandchildren and beloved Western Province, Naadir brought passion, energy, and unwavering commitment. It is that passion and his support of others that we will miss most.”
Over more than two decades, he held numerous leadership roles in golf administration – including the President of the SAGA, President of the Western Province Golf Union, President of Parow Golf Club, Vice-President of the African Golf Confederation Board, and GolfRSA Board member.
“Although Naadir stepped down in September 2020 due to health reasons, his passion for the game and its people never faded,” Hepburn added.
“He played a pivotal role in the formation of GolfRSA, unifying the men’s and women’s amateur structures into a single, inclusive governing body. That achievement stands among his most enduring legacies. His steady leadership and wise counsel, especially during the uncertain early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, were instrumental in guiding the sport through one of its most challenging periods.
“While we mourn his passing, Naadir’s impact lives on – in the golfers he helped nurture, the strong administrative structures he helped build, and the enduring spirit he instilled in all of us.”
'A TRUE SERVANT OF GOLF'
GolfRSA Chairman of the Board Johann Rupert said his unexpected death leaves a deep void.
“Naadir was a true servant of golf. He mentored countless players and officials, and his commitment to the game at every level was unmatched. We say goodbye with heavy hearts, but we will continue striving to honour his legacy.”
Current SAGA President Deon Nel echoed these sentiments.
“Naadir paved the way for many of us in golf administration. His vision, integrity and genuine love for the game set a standard we all aspire to. He believed that golf had the power to unite and uplift, and he worked tirelessly to ensure the game was accessible to all. We will honour his memory by continuing that work with the same heart and purpose he always brought to the table.”
Women’s Golf South Africa President Susan Andrew said: “Naadir’s unwavering dedication to developing talent – from grassroots through to elite level – is a powerful legacy. He believed in the future of South African golf, and we offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. May they find comfort in knowing the profound difference he made.”
Rest in peace, Naadir. May your love for the game continue to shine down on us all.
