Stellenbosch FC needed a stoppage-time goal to hold Polokwane City to a 1-1 draw in a Betway Premiership match played at the Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night.

Stellies remain fifth in the standings after registering their seventh league draw of the season.

Coach Steve Barker will be hoping to guide his side to a victory when they square off with Marumo Gallants on 4 March.

Rise and Shine meanwhile also remain fourth in the standings after letting their lead slip on the night.

Coach Phuti Mohafe's side will be determined to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Golden Arrows on 12 March.

Although Stellies saw most of the ball in the opening exchanges, it was Rise and Shine who registered the first shot on target in the 14th minute.

Mokibelo Ramabu was afforded space and time to unleash a low shot, which was saved by goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

Polokwane continued to threaten against the run of play and Stephens was called into action in first-half stoppage time.

This time Stellenbosch shot-stopper denied Bonginkosi Dlamini to ensure that the first half ended goalless in the Winelands.

However, Dlamini was not to be denied six minutes after the restart.

Eventual Man of the Match Ramabu played a low crow at the near-post which was turned home by Dlamini who produced with a deft touch to make it 1-0 to Polokwane - stunning the home crowd into silence.

Stellies piled pressure on the visitors' defence as they looked to level matters and Ashley Cupido proved to be an inspired substitute in stoppage time.

The former South Africa under-23 striker turned the ball home from close range to ensure that the match ended in a 1-1 draw on the night.
