Mahut to retire from tennis at end of season
Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, who famously lost the longest match in tennis history to John Isner in 2010, will retire from the sport at the end of the season, he said on Wednesday.
The 43-year-old Mahut enjoyed most of his success in doubles, becoming world No 1 in 2016 and winning five Grand Slam titles.
But he will be best remembered for the epic Wimbledon singles first-round match against Isner 15 years ago, which stretched over three days, lasting 11 hours and five minutes before the American won a deciding set 70-68.
"I've decided to end my career... I have a few tournaments left," Mahut told Eurosport for whom he works as a pundit.
Mahut has not played doubles since Wimbledon last year due to injuries, while his last singles match came in Miami Open qualifying in 2021.
