The Olympic 100m champion was pushed all the way by Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo and in the end they were separated by just two hundredths of a second – USA’s Lyles winning in 19.74 (-0.6m/s).
Botswana’s Tebogo matched his season’s best with 19.76, while the Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando was third in 20.14.
It is a fifth Diamond League 200m title since 2017 for Lyles. Adding that to the 100m title he won in 2019, the US sprinter becomes the most successful track athlete in the history of the Diamond League, just one title short of the overall record.
