British cycling ace Tom Pidcock climbed away from a clutch of rivals to win stage two of Saudi Arabia's Al-Ula Tour on Wednesday.

The double Olympic mountain bike champion quit Ineos in the close season to join Swiss second tier team Q36.5 and Pidcock admitted the win came from a team decision on just his second stage for them.

"We said we'd try and win the stage. I'm in a really good place but after the winter you don't know what shape you are really in," said the 25-year-old after the 157.7km run that finished on Bir Jaydah mountain.

"The last 200m were tough but now it's all to play for in the overall standings," said Pidcock who now leads the five stage race.
