Chancel Mbemba – one voice, one people, a historic qualification

Framed as both an intimate and political testimony, the project highlights the journey, convictions, and responsibility carried by one of the leading figures in contemporary African football.
Through an exclusive interview and a photographic series, Chancel Mbemba reflects on his childhood in Kinshasa, his relationship with discipline, faith, Congolese music, and his role as an ambassador for a country whose recent history remains marked by deep tensions.

“After 52 years of waiting, hope finally becomes reality.”
This project unfolds within a moment of collective celebration.
The scenes of joy witnessed in Kinshasa reflect the unbreakable bond between the Leopards and their people.
Beyond sport, Chancel Mbemba also emphasizes the importance of using this visibility to carry a message:
“Every player is an ambassador of Congo. It is important for us to speak to the world about what is happening in the East of the country.”
Conceived as a meeting point between disciplines, the project is rooted in the Congolese creative diaspora, led by journalist Christelle Bakima and photographer Olivia Lifungula, alongside designer and stylist Daniel Manene Mavakala, designer Paola Buendia, and artist Bénédicte Lutumba.
Together, they shape a visual and editorial narrative that goes beyond football, placing this qualification within a broader story one of a people, of transmission, and of renewed pride.
Through this project, PUMA reaffirms its cultural presence in Africa and its longstanding connection to football across the continent.
“In Congo and across Africa, PUMA is a popular brand… today I am proud of it.’
