Chancel Mbemba – one voice, one people, a historic qualification

Through an exclusive interview and a photographic series, Chancel Mbemba reflects on his childhood in Kinshasa, his relationship with discipline, faith, Congolese music, and his role as an ambassador for a country whose recent history remains marked by deep tensions.

Beyond sport, Chancel Mbemba also emphasizes the importance of using this visibility to carry a message:

“Every player is an ambassador of Congo. It is important for us to speak to the world about what is happening in the East of the country.”

Conceived as a meeting point between disciplines, the project is rooted in the Congolese creative diaspora, led by journalist Christelle Bakima and photographer Olivia Lifungula, alongside designer and stylist Daniel Manene Mavakala, designer Paola Buendia, and artist Bénédicte Lutumba.

Together, they shape a visual and editorial narrative that goes beyond football, placing this qualification within a broader story one of a people, of transmission, and of renewed pride.
