Kaizer Chiefs on Friday broke their silence on the future of coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has left the club and is no longer the coach.

“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing. The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes,” said the statement.

“The Club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period. As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.

“We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official Club channels when appropriate,” the statement added.

But it is known that Nabi is now negotiating a settlement of his three-year contract through his lawyers.

He was on the brink of being fired last season as Chiefs finished outside the top eight for a second successive season but was then saved by the fact they won the Nedbank Cup, the first trophy for the club in 10 years.

This season Chiefs started the new Betway Premiership campaign with three successive victories without him as Nabi had to return home after his wife fell off a roof and sustained multiple fractures.

On his return, they won one game but then lost 3-1 to Sekhukhune United on Tuesday.

Nabi would not have been able to coach Chiefs in the African Confederation Cup because he does not have a valid Confederation of African Football pro licence, another bone of contention at the club.

Chiefs play away at Kabuscorp of Angola in Luanda on Saturday in their first round, first leg tie.

His assistants Khalid Ben Youssef and Cedrick Kaze have taken temporary charge but Chiefs are now looking for a new coach.
