Moreno triumphs on home soil

Brandon Moreno claimed a much-desired win on home soil in Mexico when he overcame Steve Ecerg via unanimous decision in the flyweight main event of a UFC Fight Night at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on the morning of Sunday 29 March 2025.

The two-time former flyweight champion had failed to win in three previous fights in Mexico, but this time around he took the victory 49-46 49-46 and 49-46 on the judges score cards.

“I've gone through so much to be here," Moreno said through a Spanish interpreter. "So much dedication and effort. I know how hard it is for so many of you to get tickets to be here. Thank you so much! This is all for you!”

Through the course of the fight, Moreno led with forward pressure, power combinations and head movement; while Erceg’s distance management, jabs and teeps kept him in the fight – albeit always slightly behind on the score cards.

The rest of the main card featured Manuel Torres stopping Drew Dober in the first round of their lightweight match; Edgar Chairez submitted CJ Vergara with a face-crank in the flyweight division; Paul Rosas Jr outpointed Vince Morales across three rounds in a bantamweight battle; in the same weight category, David Martinez stopped Saimon Oliveira; and a catchweight (127 lb) clash saw Kevin Borjas overcome Ronaldo Rodriguez via unanimous decision.

The UFC continues next weekend with a Fight Night at the Apex Facility in Las Vegas on the morning of Sunday 6 April, headlined by a featherweight fight between Josh Emmett and Lerone Murphy.
