Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru struggled for early runs against some good bowling from pacemen Khaleel Ahmed and Matt Henry of the Chennai Super Kings in their Tata IPL match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The Chinnaswamy pitch usually offers a feast of runs but the pace was slow and the bowlers hit a hard length, and it took Virat Kohli until the fourth over before he drove Henry for a sumptuous six over long-on.

He followed that with a straight drive for four but perished in the next over, caught by Shivam Dube for 28 off Anshul Kamboj, making up for an earlier drop when Kohli was on 7.

At the end of the power play, RCB had scored a moderate – for them – 51 for one wicket with Phil Salt just beginning to find his timing.
