Mkhuma a sign of the ‘new’ Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns youngster Promise Mkhuma has been crowned an Absa Premiership in his maiden season with the first team, one of a number of youngsters brought through by coach Pitso Mosimane this term as he seems to refresh the squad.
The 20-year-old winger is a product of the club’s academy along with the likes of Keletso Makgalwa, Sphelele Mkhulise and Nico Lukhubeni, who have all seen first team action this campaign.

“It is a great feeling, I said before I wanted to win the championship with this club and it is a great start. The gates are opening. I am looking forward to bringing more trophies to the club,” Mkhuma says, adding that the breakthrough of the young players shows the Sundowns academy is flourishing.

“I’ve been prepared well for the big stage, and I was prepared from the academy so it shows that the work of the coaches is paying off.”
Mkhuma is the youngest member of the Sundowns squad this season, and says he receives plenty of guidance from the old hands.
“The relationship with the senior guys is great, I am with Tiyani Mabunda and Hlompho Kekana most of the time. They are the ones that have guided me during training,” he says. “They tell me how to do the right things and try to fix my mistakes. How to calm myself down.
“Before the game we played Maritzburg [2-2 draw], I spoke to Vila [Sibusiso Vilakazi] and he said I mustn’t be scared to take them on and play my game, and don’t be scared of making mistakes. It was great.”
Mkhuma will now hope to be involved when Sundowns take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the final of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, a chance for a third piece of silverware this season after they also won the Telkom Knockout.
