SuperSport set to deliver thrills as Proteas Women chase WCup Glory

The countdown is on for the ICC Women’s World Cup, and SuperSport is ready to bring you all the thrilling coverage from the highly anticipated tournament, kicking off on 30 September 2025 in Sri Lanka and India.
As the Proteas women’s team prepares to embark on their quest for a maiden World Cup title, SuperSport will be your exclusive home for every moment of the action, emotion, and history-making cricket.
Ahead of the spectacle, SuperSport caught up with Proteas spin bowling allrounder Suné Luus for an exclusive chat.
Luus provides a unique perspective on the team’s mindset, preparation, and burning ambition at the ICC Women’s World Cup.
“We have a lot of depth in this team, and the youngsters coming in don’t fear anyone,” said Luus.
“The energy they bring lifts everyone else. Combined with the experienced players, it gives us a strong balance.”
“We’ve got a winning mindset, and we’re trusting the process.”
Luus’s sentiments perfectly encapsulates the new-found belief and confidence within the Proteas camp as they head into the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
The team enters the World Cup on the back of a morale-boosting series win against Pakistan, a warm-up designed to help the squad acclimate to the sub-continent conditions they will face in India and Sri Lanka.
This victory has instilled a steely resolve in the team, and Luus believes their preparations have been meticulous.
“I think women’s cricket is in a very crucial stage, and preparation is key,” Luus said.
“For me, it’s about keeping the stumps in play. Later in the tournament, the wickets might turn more, which will help the spinners.”
“In the early stages, it could be more about pace, mixing it up, slowing it down, then bowling a bit quicker when needed. That variation will be very important.”
GAME-BY-GAME STRATEGY
Luus, who captained the Proteas at the 2022 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, and who is an integral part of the team's allrounder core, spoke about the group’s mindset.
“We’re lucky to have a lot of good allrounders in the team. We’re in good form at the moment and there are some youngsters coming through as well.”
“Having those allrounders balances the team really well. The mindset is to attack as soon as possible, but also to adjust depending on conditions.”
SuperSport is set to bring all the thrilling coverage of the ICC Women’s World Cup, with the Proteas' aiming for their first-ever World Cup title.
SuperSport chatted exclusively to Proteas all-rounder Suné Luus, who shares insights on the team's depth, winning mindset, and preparation for the highly anticipated tournament in India and Sri Lanka
This dynamic approach will be a key factor in their bid for glory.
While the tournament schedule is challenging, Luus remains focused on the present.
“For me, all the World Cup games are the same. Every team you play is important and every game matters. You have to be at your best in all of them.”
The Protea’s allrounder says the team will be focused on a game-by-game strategy at this year’s spectacle, a strategy that has worked well in the past.
“The plan is to take it one game at a time.”
“I think in the last couple of World Cups we’ve done that well, and it’s something we need to keep focusing on. Stick to the plan and don’t think too far ahead.”
As a senior player, Luus is also focused on her role as a leader and a contributor.
“You always want to contribute. It’s about being there for the younger players when they lean on you, and also making sure I play my part, whether with bat or ball to help the team cross the line.”
The Proteas’ World Cup journey is set to be a rollercoaster of emotions and skill, with key fixtures against some of the world’s best teams.
SuperSport will bring you all the thrilling coverage, starting with their opening match against England on 3 October.
The team will then face New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia in a challenging but exciting schedule.
Luus, who has played in India before, is particularly excited about the atmosphere.
“Cricket supporters are amazing everywhere. In India, the atmosphere is always incredible.”
“The fans are passionate, and while they love their team, they also appreciate good cricket no matter who is playing. It’s very special to play in front of them.”
