Lucknow beat Mumbai in thriller
Aiden Markram and David Miller starred for the Lucknow Super Giants as they posted a formidable 203-8 after being asked to bat first which was good enough for a 12-run victory in their IPL game against the Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Stadium in Lucknow on Friday.
A potentially thrilling finish ended tamely with the Mumbai run chase finishing on 191-5 with leg-spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi completing outstanding figures of 4-0-21-1 in yet another high scoring encounter.

Mitchell Marsh led the way for LSG with a typically rumbustious 60 from just 31 balls (9x4, 2x6) and dominated an opening stand of 76 with a subdued Markram who finally accelerated to reach 53 from 38 balls with two fours and four sixes before slapping a slower ball bouncer from Hardik Pandya to long off.
Miller blasted 27 from 14 balls with three fours and a six before heaving another slower ball from Hardik (4-0-36-5) to deep midwicket – it was a delivery which worked perfectly on the night for Pandya having earlier claimed the wickets of Rishabh Pant (2) and Nicholas Pooran (12) on a wicket lacking in pace.

The Mumbai run-chase was undermined early with LSG’s opening bowlers learning from Pandya’s back-of-a-length deliveries resulting in Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Rickelton (10) both hooking Akash Deep (1-46) and Shardul Thakur (1-40) to Ravi Bishnoi on the deep square leg boundary.
Naman Dhir was undeterred smashing 46 from 24 balls before missing a legside flick against excellent leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi whose first two overs (2-0-8-1) profoundly changed the tone of the innings.
Suryakumar Yadav kept Mumbai firmly in the game with a classy 67 from 43 balls (9x4, 1x6) before pulling seamer Avesh Khan to deep square leg but brilliant ‘death’ bowling by Thakur and Avesh Khan confirmed Lucknow’s victory.
Tilak Varma struggled desperately to 25 from 23 balls before suffering the indignity of being retired out.

The result left the Mumbai Indians languishing in seventh place on the 10-team log with just one win from four games while the Super Giants are in sixth place with two victories from their four games so far.
