Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav scored scintillating half centuries to set up the Mumbai Indians total of 215-7 and a thoroughly convincing 54-run victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (161 all out) in their IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon.

Rickelton blasted 58 from 32 balls with six fours and four hooked and slog-swept sixes before miscuing another slog-sweep against legspinner Digvesh Rathi with the total already on a daunting 88-2 in just the ninth over.

Suryakumar was marginally quicker with 54 from a mere 28 balls containing four fours and four sixes, one of which will remain a season’s highlight when he somehow pulled a bouncer from seamer Prince Yadav above his head having dropped to one knee for a premeditated scoop shot.

Naman Dhir (25* from 11 balls) and Corbin Bosch provided the fireworks in the final few overs with Bosch marking his MI debut with a cracking 20 from 10 balls with two fours and a huge six over midwicket against Rathi.

All five LSG bowlers used conceded over 40 with new ball seamer Mayank Yadav (2-40) and Avesh Khan (2-42) having the consolation of two wickets.

The visitors never remotely threatened the target with top scores of 34 from opener Mitch Marsh and 35 from Ayush Badoni after Aiden Markram struggled to nine from 11 balls and Impact Player David Miller whacked 24 from 16 balls with three fours.

In-form Black Caps left-armer Trent Boult claimed 3-20 but the imperious Jasprit Bumrah was yet again the pick of the Mumbai attack with 4-22 from his four overs.

Bosch, meanwhile, enjoyed the luxury of bowling with the opposition all-but beaten and returned the excellent analysis of 4-0-26-1.

It was Mumbai’s fifth consecutive victory and sixth in total from 10 matches and moved them into a share of the log lead with 12 points while LSG remain in sixth place with five wins and five losses from their 10 games.
