Cape Town Spurs’ winless streak in the Motsepe Foundation Championship continued as the team lost 1-0 to JDR Stars on Friday afternoon at the Athlone Stadium.

A first-half goal scored by Ishmael Wadi ensured that the Soshanguve team took home all three points from the encounter.

It’s not looking good for the Cape Town outfit who have made it a mission to return to the Betway Premiership since they were relegated at the end of the 2023-24 season.

The loss means that Ernst Middendorp’s charges are languishing in 14th place on the MFC league table, with 10 points after 12 games.

Milford are still leading the pack in first place despite stumbling and losing 1-0 to sixth-placed Casric Stars.

Durban City managed to close the gap between themselves and Milford to one point following their emphatic 3-1 win over Upington City.

In other results, Baroka picked up a crucial 1-0 over Highbury at the Gelvandale Stadium on Friday evening. Now placed ninth, the team has the same amount of points as Upington City and Kruger United who sit in seventh and eighth position respectively.

Sunday’s fixtures saw two high-scoring matches as University of Pretoria emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Black Leopards at home and Leruma United were defeated 3-2 by Hungry Lions at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
