Sekhukhune United claimed a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 match played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Monday night.

The well-deserved win saw Babina Noko advance to the Round of 16 and coach Lehlohonolo Seema will be eager to mastermind the team's second successive victory when they face Stellenbosch FC in a Betway Premiership clash on Saturday.

The Citizens, on the other hand, bowed out of the South African FA Cup and coach Muhsin Erturgal will be determined to ensure his side return to winning ways when they lock horns with TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership on Sunday.

Both teams created a few goalscoring opportunities in the first half, but they failed to register a single shot on target.

Babina Noko threatened first through Katlego Otladisa whose curling effort went just over the crossbar in the fifth minute.

At the other end, Thabo Nodada was afforded space to turn and shoot at goal in the 39th minute, but the Citizens midfielder's low shot narrowly missed the target.

The score was 0-0 at the halftime break in Polokwane.

Babina Noko were the better side in the second half and they deservedly broke the deadlock through Otladisa whose curling shot from outside the box hit the back of the net to hand Sekhukhune a 1-0 lead three minutes before the hour-mark.

Sekhukhune's 2-0 victory was sealed by Relebogile Mokhuoane who haunted his former employers, City, by heading home eventual Man of the Match Sipho Mbule's corner-kick in the 71st minute.

The hosts were then able to contain the Citizens in the latter stages of the match.
