Chelsea v Southampton: What the stats say

Chelsea have lost two of their last three Premier League games against Southampton, as many defeats ain their previous 18 against them (W11 D5). However, they did win the reverse fixture 5-1 in December.
Southampton won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in their last Premier League campaign of 2022-23 – they’ve not won consecutive away league games against Chelsea since March 1985.
Chelsea have won 11 of their last 14 Premier League games against sides starting the day bottom of the table (D2 L1), though their only defeat in this run was at home to Southampton in February 2023.
Since the start of last season, Chelsea have won nine of their 10 evening kick-offs (7pm or later) at home in the Premier League (D1). Their last such defeat came in April 2023 at the hands of Brentford (0-2).
Southampton have lost each of their last six midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Premier League games, including all three this season by an aggregate score of 9-2.
Chelsea have only failed to score in one of their last 25 Premier League home games (60 goals scored in total), a 2-0 loss to Man City on MD1 this season. However, the Blues have only kept one clean sheet in their last 13 at Stamford Bridge, beating Aston Villa 3-0 in December.
Following a 19-game winless run away from home in the Premier League (D4 L15), Southampton won 2-1 at Ipswich in their last match on the road. They’ve not won consecutively away from home in the division since June 2020.
Thanks to a 4-0 defeat against Brighton last time out, Southampton have now conceded at least 60 goals in each of their last six Premier League campaigns. They’re only the second side to ever do so in the competition, after Bournemouth (2015-16 to 2023-24).
Chelsea have lost three Premier League games in which they’ve scored the first goal this season. It’s their most in a campaign since 2015-16 (also 3), while they last suffered more defeats from a 1-0 lead in the competition in 2009-10 (4).
Chelsea have lost four of their last five games in all competitions (W1), as many as in their previous 29 beforehand (W18 D7). Indeed, the Blues have lost each of their last three matches, last losing more consecutively in April/May 2023 (6).
