SuperSport to broadcast CAF African school football championships

SuperSport and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have reached an agreement that will see Your World of Champions, SuperSport, broadcasting the African Schools Football Championships 2025.
The tournament, which was launched in 2022 in Mozambique, will be played in Ghana from 23 to 26 April 2025. Former Banyana Banyana captain and SuperSport analyst Amanda Dlamini joins the event as one of the ambassadors and mentors.
Other ambassadors and mentors include Abedi Pele (Ghana), Robert Kadiaba (DRC), Kareem Haggui (Tunisia), Adjoa Bayor (Ghana) and Clementine Toure (Ivory Coast).
The African Schools Football Championships is in its third edition and seeks to establish itself as a continentally sustainable and competitive school football competition.
Over and above the football being played during this period, there are other programmes and layers that will be included, such as Young Reporter Programme and Young Referee Programme, just to name a few.
The programme will also include other support pillars that will increase the social impact of football and build the capacity of participating countries to manage football through training programmes.
In total, there are sixteen teams competing for top honours and are split into two groups of eight (8) boys and girls under the age of 15.
Tanzania goes into this year’s tournament as defending champions for the boys after winning it at home last year, defeating Guinea in the final, while South Africa narrowly beat Morocco to be crowned the girls’ champions.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and other dignitaries will be in attendance during the finals of this year’s event. The African Schools Football Championship is the brainchild of the current CAF President. Since its inception, the tournament has seen 880 000 kids from 46 African countries participating, with these figures predicted to increase over time.
Following the finalisation of the agreement, the games will be broadcast in the splendour of high definition on Your World of Champions’ SuperSport on DStv, the SuperSport Schools App and SABC+ (Plus) App.
Joining Tanzania under the boys’ division will be Uganda, South Africa, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Ghana, while under the girls’ section, South Africa will look to defend their title against Uganda, Malawi, Morocco, DR Congo, Gambia, Benin and Ghana.
