p>It's September 2025, and at SuperSport that means we are celebrating our 30th birthday! 

 

While we have been bringing you sporting excellence for longer than that - as part of MNet SuperSport - this is our 30-year stand-alone celebration, so why don't we take a trip down Memory Lane and re-live some of the unforgettable moments of the last three decades.

And we are only just getting started, so here's to the next 30 - and we can't wait to see what our sporting heroes (both current and to come) do to bring joy to our hearts and tears to our eyes...

SCHWARTZEL BIRDIE STREAK WINS HIM THE MASTERS

  April 2011, The Masters, Augusta, Georgia. Charl Schwartzel came from four shots behind to finish with four consecutive birdies on the final four holes to capture the green jacket.

OOSTHUIZEN WINS THE OPEN

July 2010, The Open Championship, St Andrews. Louis Oosthuizen's seven-stroke triumph over Lee Westwood at St Andrews in 2010 has been bettered in The Open only by Tiger Woods since 1913.

SUPERSPORT UNITED TAKE GIANT LEAP

March 2008, PSL, SuperSport United v Free State Stars, Pretoria. SuperSport hammer the visitors 6-1 to instill the belief they could win the league for the first time. It was the first of three-consecutive titles.

LE CLOS TAKES DOWN THE GOAT

July 2012, Olympic Games, London. Chad Le Clos shocks the world by defeating the greatest Olympian of all time - Michael Phelps - in the men's 200m butterfly.

HASHIM AMLA'S TRIPLE TON

July 2012, England v South Africa, first test. Hashim Amla becomes the first South African to go past the 300 mark in test-match cricket.

MONSTER KICK TO DOWN THE ALL BLACKS

October 2014, Rugby Championship, Ellis Park, SA v NZ. Patrick Lambie slots a penalty from his own half to earn the Boks a two-point victory over the All Blacks, and end a five-match losing streak against their arch-rivals.

OLYMPIC GOLD AND WORLD RECORD

August 2019, Olympics Games, Rio de Janeiro. Wayde van Niekerk smashes one of the most coveted world records in athletics, and brings home gold for SA in the men's 400m.

WORLD CHAMPION AT HOW OLD?!

August 2021, Val Di Sole, Italy. World MTB Championships. Less than three months before his 40th birthday, SA's mountain-bike legend Greg Minnaar wins the downhill World Championships for the fourth time, 18 years after his first.

SA'S FIRST WOMAN MAJOR WINNER IN 34 YEARS

August 2022, Muirfield, Scotland. Ashleigh Buhai wins her first major title, becoming the first South African woman to do so since Sally Little in 1988.
