Al Ahly seek to solidify advantage in crucial second leg clash

Al Hilal will put up a fight and target over-turning the deficit against Al Ahly in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final at the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Kick-off is at 9pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM

Al Hilal lost their first leg clash against Al Ahly, but they are in decent domestic form, having won their last two league matches in a row.

Al Ahly have lost their last two matches in the Egyptian League Cup against El Gaish and ENPPI respectively, but bounced back in the CAF Champions League when they defeated Al Hilal 1-0 at the Cairo International Stadium last week.

WHAT WAS SAID

Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller made it clear that the defending champions are always aiming for titles, and will work hard to retain the CAF Champions League.

“The current edition will be very difficult as all the teams share the same ambition. But the pressure from our fans is a positive force that drives us to achieve and set new goals,” he says.

Captain Mohamed El Shenawy is equally determined, stating, “Our goal is to win this title for the third time in a row. We’re a generation used to chasing trophies and facing pressure, and we’ll take it step by step to reach our ultimate objective.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Issa Fofana, Al Hilal – The Ivory Coast international goalkeeper will be relied upon to try to keep a clean sheet against a dangerous attacking Al Ahly side to give the home side a fighting chance of advancing to the next round.

Mohamed Hany, Al Ahly – The right-back has shown versatility in both defence and attack, offering a double-threat for the Egyptians. Having scored in the first leg, Hany will be looking to put up another impressive performance against Al Hilal.
