Botswana on Thursday named South African-born Morena Ramoreboli as the national team coach after having helped them secure a place in the Africa Cup of Nations finals later this year.

Ramoreboli, who has taken Jwaneng Galaxy to the last two Botswana league titles, was caretaker coach last November when the Zebras drew away in Egypt to qualify for the Cup of Nations for only a second time.

“His familiarity with many of Botswana's players from his time at the club level ensures a seamless transition into his new role,” said a statement announcing the appointment.

The BFA has set tough targets for Ramoreboli, which are progressing beyond the group stages at the Cup of Nations finals in Morocco in December, collecting at least 12 points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, qualifying for Chan 2026 and winning the 2025 COSAFA Senior Men's Challenge. “Additionally, improving Botswana's Fifa ranking to the top 30 in Africa is a key objective,” their statement added.”

“To achieve these goals, the BFA is committed to providing the necessary resources and support for the Zebras,” it added.

Reports said Ramoreboli had signed a two-year contract.
