This week’s episode had so many twists and turns, one could have easily had a heart attack from the action.

First it was Dikeledi Tshabalala leaving the SuperSport MVP Talent Search Show due to personal reasons, and then it was followed by the rollercoaster in the camp.

SuperSport’s Hope Mbhele and Tshego Koke lead the SuperSport MVP Talent Search Show, as hosts, that aims to find South Africa’s next generation of sports broadcasters.

THE MASTERCLASS WITH MTHETHWA

This week, Baba Mthethwa has the reins as the contenders hope to impress him in the first challenge.

Baba is veteran commentator and broadcaster and has been the voice of SeSotho football commentary for almost three decades. Honestly, the challenge in this episode was a bit tricky. Being able to identify a sporting action while being blindfolded takes or presenting and commentating on a fast forwarded event takes focus. The MVPs struggled but were able to get through the challenge to book a place in the masterclass with Baba.

He brings passion and experience to the masterclass, as the contestants hope to improve their skills. During the lesson Baba emphasised the importance of teamwork in the broadcast world, sometimes they may have to help production to carry equipment or share ideas on how a shot or story is covered. No one succeeds by themselves in this game. He also stressed the importance of getting the work right instead of being obsessed with being front of the camera.

TOUGH CHALLENGE

This week’s top 10 had a tough task. Having to record your challenge live in front of judges must have been daunting. On top of that, Arthur Khoza was in their ear with directions, that is what live television is about. Being able to keep it together, steer the show while being able to take instructions from the production room.

Resident judges Neil Andrews and Motshidisi Mohono are back in the SuperSport Arena. They are joined by actress Gaosi Raditholo, who is currently on Mzansi Magic’s Genesis.

The nerves got the better of some of the MVPs, that is not going to serve them going forward.

Oh Neil, the bomb he dropped after the top 10 went through their challenge was not expected at all. But you could tell by how the other MVPs were clapping that something just aint right. Bidding farewell to three contestants was drama we were not expecting. The bottom eight were actually the top performers this week, mind blown!

MIXED FEELINGS FOR THEMBELIHLE

After weeks of trying, Thembelihle Mnguni must be gutted that the only time she made it into the top 10 is when she gets to leave the show. She ought to be proud of herself though for making it so far. Hopefully there are some lessons that she will take going into the future if she still wants to pursue a career in sports presenting.

Rethabile Moshounyane and Sibonelo Zulu are the other MVPs whose journey came to an end this week. They both showed eargerness to learn and make a name for themselves.

From over 2000 entries who were cut down to a 100, then 20, we now have the final 15. Only 10 of the MVPs will join the World of Champions at the end of the season. Have your favourites made it?

Catch the show every Sunday on SuperSport Variety 4 and Mzansi Magic at 9pm.
