Back to the beginning: Killarney awaits the penultimate showdown

The 2025 GR Cup heads back to Killarney Raceway on Saturday, for round 6 of 7 in the National Extreme Festival.
All eyes will be on the current Championship leaders.
Jason Coetzee in the GR86 Development Academy (23 Point advantage)
Nabil Abdool in the GR Cup Media Challenge (23 Point advantage)
Mario De Sousa in the GR Cup Dealer Challenge (18 Point advantage)
All three drivers hold a commanding lead in their respective classes, with only two rounds remaining, a total of four races (2 heats per round) leave only twenty-eight points on the table. A strong showing at Killarney from the trio may decide their Championship ambitions in the Western Cape.
The return to Killarney marks a full-circle moment for SuperSport’s driver Nabil Abdool. It was here, on 8 March, that he made his GR Cup debut in the SuperSport backed GR Yaris affectionately known as “Cupcake,” claiming pole position overall, both class wins, and the fastest lap in a remarkable rookie debut. This time, he arrives behind the wheel of the fan favourite 2025 GR Yaris nicknamed “Apollo” with a commanding championship lead in his rookie season.
The championship is within touching distance, and Abdool faces one of the biggest moments of his career.
“Killarney is where it all began this season, and it could be where it all comes together,” said Abdool. “The field is competitive, the drivers know the circuit well and the podium fight will be intense. This weekend is also deeply personal, race day falls on my late father’s birthday, sealing the deal on the day would be the greatest honour and a touching tribute.”
Killarney promises high drama and intense battles, with all drivers now fully dialled-in and accustomed to both their cars and the track, they each hope to leave Cape Town with crucial points.
The World of Champions wish Abdool the best of luck with the title contention.
