In what is billing up to be a mouthwatering clash in the Betway Premiership this weekend, a free scoring TS Galaxy outfit will welcome Cape Town City to the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm (CAT, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM

Fresh off their 7-0 win against Vasco Da Gama in the Nedbank Cup earlier this week, the Rockets will now hope to get back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership.

TS Galaxy will resume their league duties on Sunday, following consecutive draws with Magesi and Golden Arrows in the month of January.

The Mpumalanga side last tasted victory in the Betway Premiership on the 29th of December 2024, where they saw out a convincing 3-1 victory against Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

While Galaxy sit in 11th place on the table, City head into their next league assignment occupying sixth position on the log.

The Citizens bowed out of the Nedbank Cup this past Monday, after a 2-0 defeat against Sekhukhune United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

However, Mushin Ertugral and his charges bagged a 2-1 win against Richards Bay in the league last time out, as Amadou Soukouna’s brace downed the KwaZulu-Natal outfit at the popular Athlone Stadium.

WHAT WAS SAID

Reflecting on his side’s recent victory over Vasco in the Nedbank Cup, Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi expressed that his side are on course to achieve big things this season.

“It was a fantastic display from our boys against Vasco da Gama, a club with a very rich football history in the Western Cape, which includes me having played for them during their NFD days,” Sukazi said.

“Their performance was a clear illustration of our club’s state of readiness in challenging for the coveted Nedbank Cup trophy.

“As people of Mpumalanga, the duty is now on us to support the only premier division club in our province during every match.”

In what was news that dominated headlines in South African football this week, the Citizens bid farewell to Keanu Cupido who made his way to Mamelodi Sundowns after spending seven seasons in Cape Town.

“Keanu Cupido has completed a permanent move to Mamelodi Sundowns,” City expressed.

“After seven memorable seasons, everyone at the club wishes Keanu all the best in his next chapter.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

TS Galaxy: Keagan Dolly – Largely considered as one of Galaxy’s most experienced campaigners, Dolly will be a crucial component for his side during the second-half of the campaign. After getting his name on the scoresheet last time out, the 32-year-old will no doubt hope that the goals will continue to flow this weekend.

Cape Town City: Darwin Gonzalez – While the Venezuelan has been shy in front of goal this season, the 30-year-old remains a staple in attack for the Western Cape side. As a player who provides a threat from all angles in the final third, the Galaxy backline will have to be on lock for 90 minutes straight.
