Nasreddine Nabi felt Kaizer Chiefs should have come away with all three points from their Betway Premiership clash at home to champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

The returning Chiefs coach, who missed the first three games of the season after his wife suffered severe fractures in a domestic accident, said his side was the better of the two in the goalless draw that left them still in second place in the standings but two points above Sundowns.

“I think it was a very good game of football from both sides. But I believe, without disrespecting the opponent, I feel like we deserved to get three points, especially in the second half where we tried to press more higher, to get on the front foot, but we unfortunately couldn't finish the situations that we created,” Nabi told the post-match press conference.

“But it was a very intense 90 minutes with two good teams. But unfortunately, we couldn't offer the three points to our fans.”

Chiefs had the better of the limited chances in front of some 75 000 at Soccer City.

“There were scoring situations that we could have dealt with differently by making better decisions, but don’t forget we have to recognise as well the quality of the opposing goalkeeper (Ronwen Willimas) who made two good saves.

“With more work, we believe that we will have the killer instinct in the future, but, you know, we played against a big team in Sundowns with great defenders.

“When I say that there are even other strikers that are coming through, it doesn't mean that those who played today played badly.

“For example, Wandile Duba made so many runs. He pressed so hard, and sometimes when you run too much, you lose a little bit of freshness when you get inside in front of the goal.

“Honestly, looking at the game, the intensity that we put into it in the first half, even if we were not very good, but the opportunities created in the second half with a more aggressive approach, and the number of times that we get around the box by maybe needing like a last pass or last cross, I believe that we lost two points,” added Nabi.
