Failure to beat Polokwane City in their final outing of the previous Betway Premiership season cost Kaizer Chiefs a top-eight place, which will give AmaKhosi plenty of motivation on Wednesday when the two sides meet again.

A goalless draw at Soccer City left Chiefs short of the points needed to secure a spot in the MTN8, and it meant they missed out for a second successive competition – the first time that has ever happened to Chiefs.

Missing out on the top eight proved a dampener for supporters soon after the euphoria of their Nedbank Cup success.

On Wednesday, Chiefs get an early chance for revenge as they host City only months on from their last clash.

It will be another chance for Chiefs to try and end a frustrating home record against ‘Rise and Shine’.

They have failed to win any of their previous four home games against Polokwane City and have gone almost six and a half hours of playing since they last got a home goal against the team from Limpopo.

That came from Dumisani Zuma in the middle of the second half of their last home victory over City – a 2-1 at Soccer City in April 2018.

Overall, however, Chiefs are still ahead in the head-to-head statistics between the two clubs.

In 20 past meetings, going back to their first in the Nedbank Cup in 2013, Chiefs have nine wins to four for City and with seven draws.

AmaKhosi got their new Betway Premiership season off to a positive start on Sunday with a 2-0 away win over Stellenbosch, but Polokwane City have yet to score in the new campaign. They lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarterfinal and drew 0-0 with neighbours Magesi on Saturday.
