Day 4: Knights and Lions share spoils at Mangaung Oval

Dane Piedt and Dominic Hendricks, the captains of the Knights and the DP World Lions, shook hands and accepted a draw as the result of their CSA 4-Day Series match at Mangaung Oval on Sunday morning. The match was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
The two teams did not take to the field in the first three days due to bad weather and a soggy outfield. The match officials determined that no other result besides a draw was possible if the teams took to the field on the final day.
The result hurts the Knights more than it will do for the Lions. The hosts are staring down the barrel of relegation. The Free State side was the first team to slide down to Division 2 after the domestic system restructure in 2022/23. JP Triegaardt did an outstanding job as he masterminded the Knights' return to the top flight. His strategic brilliance earned him the Division 2 Coach of the Year Award at the CSA Awards in September last year.
Triegaardt's side has not had a great red-ball campaign, they won their first encounter, and haven't been able to replicate that performance. They drew two and lost two in their next four outings.

Our final pool match of the 4-Day Series has officially been abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
It will go down on record as a draw for both teams.🤝🏏#LionsCricket #ThePrideOfJozi#SpiritOfChampions #4DaySeries#WozaNawe #BePartOfIt pic.twitter.com/7BxjYc4lQ6
The Lions' campaign, on the other hand, couldn't be more different. Russell Domingo's side hasn't lost a match in the competition. They have won the most matches, three, in the tournament, and drew the other three. They look certain to retain the top spot. This will give them a home advantage in the final. Should they make it all the way, to win the title, this will be their second four-day trophy in consecutive seasons.
