As expectations continue to rise following Kaizer Chiefs' great start in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) this season, the club's coach, Vela Khumalo, is not getting carried away.

He wants expectations to be lowered.

Amakhosi are currently leading the table with 13 points from six matches.

Despite the league being in its early days, Chiefs' positive start has raised expectations among their fans, with some even considering the possibility of them winning the title.

In 10 Years of the DDC, Chiefs have never lifted the elusive league title that comes with a fully paid overseas tour.

However, they are among the clubs that have been able to unearth gems and promote them to the senior team while others earn overseas moves.

Talking ahead of their away weekend fixture, where they will face Richards Bay FC in a DDC Festival at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday at 3 pm., Khumalo said they are still far from where they want to be in terms of performance.

“We have been clear all along that we are teaching these kids. If we win, it means our teachings were well drilled. But at this stage we are still far from what we want in terms of performance,” explained Khumalo.

“Being No 1 is just is just a fluke if I can put that way. It's time to keep our feet on the ground and work more hard, we know where we want to be.

We want to develop players with no rush. At this moment I cannot even talk about winning the league. Remember this is a new team. Most of these boys are new in the DDC setup.”

Regarding their clash against Richards Bay, Khumalo said he expects a closely contested clash. The Rich Boys have also been doing well, winning comfortably their last two matches.
